The event serves as an opportunity to gather art supplies for our friends at Rosa Parks Elementary, while giving SFSA the chance to get to know our community. We are sponsoring the art teacher at Rosa Parks Elementary…here’s a bit from Geneva Costa and why the event is important to her and her classroom.
The Challenge we’re Facing:
Many schools struggle with funding, asking families to provide supplies used in school. Unfortunately, many families are struggling as well. Throughout the nation, more than 30 million students are enrolled in the free and reduced meal programs, and Sioux Falls is no exception. Many parents are unable to provide the basic school supplies their children need to be effective. In addition, schools across the country are facing severe budget cuts and lack the funding to purchase necessary supplies. Art classes are often cut first and lastly considered in supply drives.
How you can help:
You can help children in school by giving them the tools they need to succeed. Donate Art supplies! There are many great reasons to do this:
• Feel great about ensuring that children start the school year with the tools they need to succeed.
• Help teachers by providing them with proper tools for their classrooms so they don’t have to spend money from their own pockets.
• By providing school supplies, you are supporting students, teachers and your local schools.
