Rachmaninoff’s Second Symphony is not only one of the most popular works of its kind ever written, it is a triumph of the human spirit. Shattered by the disastrous premiere of his First Symphony (“the most agonizing hour of my life”), Rachmaninoff fell into a deep depression and struggled daily to write a page of music worth keeping. With the help of hypnosis, Rachmaninoff eventually recovered to write his best-loved works for piano and a symphony for the ages. Featuring composer and pianist Paul Sanchez, who grew up in Sioux Falls.
