Artist Reception: Klaire Lockheart

The SFAC features a new visual artist every two months in an effort to give artists who have not yet had a solo exhibition in Sioux Falls the chance to do so. Artists are selected by a panel of jurors and are then presented to the public in a celebratory open house. These events are free and open to the public.

Join us September 8th, 2017 as we welcome Artist Klaire Lockheart into the Sioux Falls Arts Council Gallery.

Klaire A. Lockheart is a painter from South Dakota, and she often creates representational portraits of women with oil on canvas. Klaire enjoys using the human form as a vehicle to communicate the agency of her subjects with viewers. In addition to addressing femininity and feminism within her artwork, she enjoys incorporating humor to make serious subjects approachable. Her life-sized portraits and have been selected in regional and national shows hosted by the Old Courthouse Arts Center in Woodstock, IL, the Washington Pavilion in Sioux Falls, and the Dahl Arts Center in Rapid City, SD. Klaire won the Best of Show Award in the 28th Annual Stilwell Competition in Vermillion in 2015, and she was awarded the People’s Choice Award in the 23rd Annual Juried Exhibition at the MacRostie Art Center in Grand Rapids, MN. Prior to teaching drawing and painting at the University of South Dakota as she pursued her M.F.A., Klaire taught K-12 art at Hinton Community Schools after she graduated from South Dakota State University. She currently teaches art in the Brandon Valley School District.
