Established in December 2019, Move To Heal South Dakota is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization with a mission of bringing therapeutic dance and yoga sessions to healthcare and community settings across the state. We are doing this by partnering with trained dance and yoga instructors as our lead volunteers to provide our movement programming free of charge to participating organizations.
Research findings demonstrate that the integration of the arts into healthcare and community settings helps to cultivate a healing environment, support the physical, mental, and emotional recovery of participants, and fosters a positive environment for caregivers. Unlike traditional dance and yoga classes that focus on perfecting moves or poses, Move to Heal South Dakota sessions focus on the pure joy of movement.
We are dedicated to transforming the experiences of isolation, loneliness, and despair that rise up daily inside places such as, hospitals and senior living facilities by connecting people with the power of the arts through movement at key moments in their lives.
In response to COVID-19, Move To Heal South Dakota has continued to serve our mission through innovative ways such as, outdoor performances and community classes, in addition to launching virtual programming in April 2020.
An ever changing spirit who eludes definition and refuses to reduce themself into something easily marketable, Seymour has a passion for all forms of creativity as a vital part of human life. Am I talking about myself in third person? I write essays and poetry, I create visual artworks in whatever medium I can get my hands on, and I perform as a dancer, drag artist, a musician, and conceptually. I don’t see any of these practices as being entirely distinct from each other, or from any other aspect of my being. I am particularly concerned with the interconnectedness of all things and am quite opposed to tidy boxes. Happy to perform oracular duties.

We support and promote a variety of musical styles, such as classical, early music, Jazz, contemporary, pop…etc. Every musical/artistic style is simply a tool for artists to communicate to the outside world. Our goal is to reach out to people who enjoy music and art in this more intimate and interactive setting, just like the old days in Europe when musicians and music lovers gathered together to hang out over a cup of tea and read some music in someone’s private “chamber” or living room.
Our projects are constantly changing and developing, so definitely follow us today! You can also support us by being a volunteer to have all the opportunities to see behind the scene!
South Dakota Ballet is the state’s first professional ballet company. Established in May 2019, South Dakota Ballet is a 501C(3) non-profit organization with a mission to inspire, empower, connect and educate the state’s continuously diversifying communities through world class performances and educational outreach programming.
Before COVID-19, South Dakota Ballet was scheduled to launch with a gala performance and fundraiser at the Washington Pavilion on Friday, June 12. Dancers from some of the greatest ballet companies in the world would take the stage performing iconic repertoire passed down through generations as well as premiere several cutting edge contemporary works. South Dakota Ballet will resume with rescheduling the launch of the organization once it is safe to congregate again. Until that time, the ballet will proceed with innovative ways to reach our communities.
Despite the challenges South Dakota Ballet has faced over the past few months, the organization’s outreach program (South Dakota Ballet BEYOND) has done an outstanding job continuing with its mission. The ballet has impacted over 700 children at a regional and national level through in-person engagements prior to the pandemic and virtual classes with some of the nation’s best dancers after in-person activities were postponed.
