The Sioux Falls Arts Council is pleased to sponsor a Plein Air paint out September 27-29, 2012, in conjunction with the South Dakota Humanities Council Festival of Books. All artists are welcome!
Artists are encouraged to paint on the streets in the area around the Festival of Books but may paint anywhere is town if they so choose. The Holiday Inn City Centre is the Festival of Books headquarters. A map of the area: www.sdbookfestival.com/getting_there.htm.
Please complete the Sioux Falls Plein Air Paint Out Registration form to enter the paint out. Check-in will take place at the Sioux Falls Arts Council office at 326 E. 8th St., Suite 106B, Thursday, September 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is a minimal $10 registration fee to help the Sioux Falls Arts Council defray publicity costs. Only registered artists will be publicized by the Arts Council.
*** An additional opportunity: the Sioux Falls Arts Council has a booth in the Exhibitors’ Hall in the Holiday Inn at the Festival of Books and up to four artists may spend time at the Arts Council booth drawing portraits during the Festival. Each artist will have a three-hour shift to draw (and sell!) your work to interested patrons. Please check the
line on the registration form if you would like to participate. The first four registered artists who are interested will be taken.
The wet sale will be held in Orpheum Theater Lobby, 315 N. Phillips Avenue, from 6-9 p.m. on Saturday, September 29, in conjunction with the Festival of Books main event in the Orpheum Main Theater. Artists must bring their own easels and displays for the wet sale. Only work
completed during the paint out is allowed to be displayed and sold. Artists will handle their own sales and sales tax. The Arts Council will not take a commission on artists’
sales.
For those who are interested, a meet and greet will be held at the Monks House of Ale Repute, 420 E. 8th Street, at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 28. Beverage and food on your own.
